How to Become Dentist ?
Work of dentist is related to the problems affecting the mouth, teeth and gums. Dentist diagnoses these problems and treat them. If someone wants to become a dentist then the minimum education requirement for becoming a licensed dentist is four years of undergraduate college and four years of dental school. Dental schools generally require applicants to hold bachelor degree before taking admission.
Admission in dental schools is highly competitive and student must take the dental admission test (DAT). There are some factors which schools take in to account during admission process i.e. grade point averages, DAT score and Interview process. Some of the students take admission in dental school before the completion of bachelor degree but they earn their bachelor degree during dental school.
Dentist must obtain the license before starting the practice in real world. To become licensed specialist candidate must complete their 2-4 years of postgraduate education. Dental course generally lasts in four years and result in a Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS), Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD) degree.
All students must have to pass a practical examination administered or approved by their states license board. Some of the dentists choose to specialize in one field.
Post doctor of dental surgery (DMD) and post doctor of dental medicine (DDS) options are available to enable license dentist to practice in various specialties. Becoming a specialist takes 2-4 years of education and in some cases residency of up to two years before earning specialty state license.
