IIT Kharagpur is going to offer MBBS courses soon
With a newbie step beyond engineering, one of the major IIT franchises IIT Kharagpur has taken a step forward and has initiated to direct MBBS courses in the campus as well.
With much delight of the students, Dr. BC Roy Institute of Medical Science & Research will soon be ready for the aspiring medical candidates, with 400-bedded super-specialty rooms and on a three-acre plot on the authority of the campus, the gates of the college will be opened for the students in the end of year 2017.
IIT-Kharagpur Director Partha Pratim Chakrabarti confirmed,” The government has already sanctioned a grant of Rs. 230 crores last year for this purpose. Construction work will start soon and is expected to be completed within 26 months.” This venture will bring along the two major streams together, and will allow the IIT group to grow diversely.
The college has already gained credibility and certification from the Medical Council of India (MCI) for proposing undergraduate medical education courses like MBBS. IIT Kharagpur will be one of its kinds to offer medical support facilities and study programs at a prominent level. Besides academically serving the students, the hospital will also render its concentration on biomedical, clinical and translational, Drug design and delivery research.
