University of HP to allow students to take Hindi as Exam Medium
A declaration made by the Himachal Pradesh Central University would now allow the students to opt for Hindi as medium of examination in all of the courses offered by the university, except English and other language courses. This would be the first of its kind initiative by any central university in the country.
“It is the right of the students to appear in Hindi if he/she doesn’t want to appear in English.” said Vice-Chancellor Prof Kuldip Chand Agnihotri. The decision regarding this was taken at an executive council meeting of the university in Dharamshala.
The University is also set to introduce MA Sanskrit as one of the courses being offered from the upcoming academic session and students opting to pursue this course will not be charged any tuition fee. A certificate course in History of Gujjars and also a certificate course in Gojri language will be brought into existence by the university.
“The aim is to preserve Gojari and document Gujjar history and culture. There is no written text on the language spoken by Gujjars and it is facing extinction. By introducing a certificate course in Gojari, the university will be able to document the language. We will start a yoga Kendra in the central university of Himachal where research and study shall be carried out on ASTANG Yoga.” said Agnihotri.
University shall also introduce B.Sc. (honors) in Physics and MA in Sociology, apart from MA in Sanskrit, from the upcoming academic sessions.
