1400 teachers with fake degrees resign in Bihar
Fearing an action from the government over the possession of fake educational degrees, a total of 1400 primary teachers in Bihar have resigned from service, said a senior official of the Education department on Thursday.
An order issued by the Patna High Court asked those holding fake educational degrees to quit their jobs on their own to avoid facing legal action. More such teachers are expected to resign in the coming days.
“Altogether 1400 teachers have resigned from service. More resignations are expected as we have fixed a deadline of July 8 for it. The final figure of those who resigned will be known only after it,” said Education Department Principal Secretary, R K Mahajan.
The teachers possessing fake degree certificates will be dealt with severely and strict action will be taken if they do don’t resign within the stipulated time period. Consequences of not resigning within the stipulated time frame will include lodging of FIRs against their names, termination of their services and government will also move towards recovery of salary and other benefits given to them.
A division bench of Chief Justice L Narasimha Reddy and Sudhir Singh passed the order while hearing a bunch of PIL filed by activists Ranjit Pandit and others.
The PIL alleges that, out of 3.5 lakh primary teachers, a large number of primary teachers in the state have taken up jobs on the basis of their fake educational certificates.
Eight DSPs and 38 inspectors have already been deputed by the state government to probe the educational qualifications of the teachers.
