IIT-Kharagpur: rejected by 91 candidates at first round of admissions
Shocked IIT Kharagpur
IIT Kharagpur, on Sunday, was taken aback on knowing that 91 candidates refused to join the campus in the first round of admissions. In the IIT chain, this is perhaps the highest number of rejections as of now.
On Tuesday, second round of admissions will begin and will continue till Friday. The administration of IIT Kharagpur is not confident of filling up all 1,343 seats in the second counseling itself and believes that the filling of seats might continue to the third round of admissions.
The least number of rejections is for IIT Delhi; it only has rejections from 17 candidates. IIT Delhi was followed by Mumbai at 24 rejections and IIT Guwahati with 38 rejections.
In response to such high number of rejections, IIT Kharagpur’s administration said that since the number of seats offered for admissions are higher than any other institute; it is natural for it to have more number of rejections.
The students with best scores in JEE Advanced have chosen to go for institutes other than the oldest functioning IIT Kharagpur.
