DU now offering a 6.5 years’ span for completion of PHD degree


Delhi University has carried out another notification for students who want to pursue their PhD degree. According to the latest news, students will be provided with time duration of six and a half years to complete their PhD degree from DU.

Abha Deve Habib, Executive Council member, was seen quoting the statement,” The span period of submission of PhD thesis shall be five years, extendable up to a maximum of six and a half years. In exceptional cases, the span may be extended after proper justification.”

Previously, students were provided with a time span of four years along with an extension of six months for completing their thesis and research preparations. So from now on, after the achievement of a proper evaluation of the research paper along with the degree, students will have to abide by the rules regarding submission of a soft copy of their PhD thesis to UGC within a 30-days framework.

The changes were seen under the jurisdiction of UGC Regulation, 2009 (Minimum Standards and Procedure for Award of PhD degree) and UGC Regulation, 2010, and highly sanctioned by Executive Council.
