No plan being formulated to make yoga compulsory at schools, says Govt.
All the commotion about making teaching of yoga compulsory at all educational institutions in the country has been laid to rest as the government on Thursday said that no such plan was being formulated.
However, for the schools affiliated to the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) yoga is a subject along with physical and health education.
"No. However, yoga is one of the subjects along with physical and health education, and is also included as part of the physical activity in all schools affiliated to CBSE across the country,” AYUSH minister Shripad Naik told Rajya Sabha .
While framing the revised XII Plan guidelines on the scheme of development of sports infrastructure and equipment at universities and colleges, UGC has also made yoga a part of the modules on health, nutrition, fitness and general well-being in all undergraduate and postgraduate courses.
