'Education Parliament' to be conducted by JNU Students at Jantar Mantar
Students from Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) will be conducting an 'Education Parliament' programme, venue being Jantar Mantar, near Connaught Place, Delhi today itself. The main motive of this social awareness programme would be to raise consciousness amongst youth regarding the latest reforms taking place in the academic sector, which also includes the CBCS and Central University Bill.
Various Academicians and students hailing from various universities and colleges such as JNU, DU, FTII, NCERT and ICHR will be a part of this programme conducted under the managerial concerns of JNU students union.
JNUSU allegedly stated, "The present government at the Centre, along with massive fund-cuts, is imposing dangerous policies of CBCS, Central Univ. Bill, RUSA, WTO diktats, saffronization, Lyngdoh, to destroy the inclusive character of public-funded higher education in the country.”
It also added with its thoughts, "These policies will commercialize, centralize and saffronize education and severely jeopardize institutional autonomy and campus democracy. It is important to have a dialogue on them.”
Several reputed expectants at the parliament will be former NCERT Director Parvin Sinclair, JMI and former ICHR Member Secretary Gopinath Ravindran, Former VC Lucknow University Roop Rekha Verma and Representatives from Teachers' Unions DU, Jamia, JNU, IGNOU, Lucknow University and Aligarh Muslim University.
