Colleges miffed over preference of Class XII marks for Eng. Entrance
With the news of JEE Apex Board revising their three-year old policy of providing a 40% preference to Class XII board marks for further admissions into centralized and big engineering institutes, other than IITs and gaining Central Seat Allocation Board recommendation on it, there has been an active hustle-bustle amongst several school principals over the declining weightage given to the XII board exams and students not taking it seriously.
However, many engineering institutes such as IITs have welcomed this decision stating the fact that no change over academic enrollment is being noticed in the last two years.
Asok De, Director of NIT Patna, revealed his thoughts about this revision, and stated that, "On the contrary, NITs have faced lot of problems after we started giving 40% weightage to Class XII scores for admissions."
On a further note, the scores were have to be directed to CBSE’s office for normalization, and then the rank list was prepared by calculating 60% weightage to JEE (Main) scores and 40% to Class XII scores. Asok even added, “Instead of giving them weightage in the rankings, we can probably have a Class XII cut-off score, like the IIT system follows."
