Berhampur declared as the new IISER Campus
Odisha State Government has finally decided Berhampur as the permanent location for setting up IISER’s (Indian Institute of Science Education and Research) new campus. An estimated 200 acre of land will be made available for the proposal.
The whole development and progress reports will be managed under the supervision of the chief secretary Gokula Chandra Pati. This heart-warming news was announced by our very own and beloved Central Finance Minister, Arun Jaitley, during his budget speech for 2015-16.
With Odisha under the developmental radar, appointment of Central Research Institute has also been brought up in light with Nagaland as the leading recipient. Berhampur was announced as the location site only after Sambalpur, one of the eastern states of Odisha, was declared to be the new location for the settlement of Indian Institute of Management (IIM) campus.
One of the possible reasons for step would be related to the protest carried out in the southern city of Berhampur, demanding the state to be a premier site for the reputed B-School.
