Summer Internships made optional at IIT Delhi
Summer internships have been made optional for the students at IIT Delhi. The third-year students can now opt for live projects in subjects like robotics and design-based learning or take up a hobby project after consulting the department instead of going for summer internships.
A 10-week internship was mandatory for every student until last year. Since an increasing number of students are going for starting up their own ventures and startups, IIT Delhi has decided to make the internships optional.
While IIT Delhi and IIT Bombay have given liberty to the students to choose between internships and other engagements, IIT Madras and IIT Kharagpur still continue to give importance to internships. Internships provide students with the experience of being on the job and therefore it is compulsory for the students to go for internships.
