Foreign faculty for IITs, IIMs and IISc
Under the National GIAN (Global Initiative of Academic Network) programme, India’s premier institutions like IITs and IIMs will have foreign faculty members from this year.
The national coordinator, under GIAN, chosen for collaborating with institutions like IITs, IIMs, IISc, NITs etc. is IIT Kharagpur.
About 500 courses will be administered by foreign teachers in the academic year 2015-16, said IIT Kharagpur-Director, Professor P P Chakrabarti. The expenditure for the same has been estimated to be around Rs. 35 crore.
At the initial stage of the programme, foreign faculties will participate as distinguished, adjunct, visiting faculty or professors of practice and others will participate in delivering short or semester-long courses in these institutes.
The implementation of GIAN programme can possibly create opportunities for collaborations in research with international faculty and international students’ visits.
