Indian Statistical Institute to be set up in Tezpur, Assam
To enhance research in the north-eastern part of the country and to assist in solving local problems, Indian Statistical Institute (ISI) is going to set up a campus at Tezpur in Assam, said Sanghamitra Bandyopadhyay, Director of the Indian Statistical Institute (ISI).
The campus will be setup on a 75 acre land, allotted by the Government of Assam, at a cost of Rs 150 crore. The campus will become fully functional in the next 4-5 years, according to Bandyopadhyay.
A post-graduate diploma course is already being offered at Tezpur University. Various local students are getting enrolled to this course. The youngsters in the northeastern will get better career options once the full-fledged campus comes up, as the number of courses on offer will go up.
The authorities believe that the Indian Statistical Institute (ISI) will also be a great hit among the aspirants just like the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) that was setup in the year 2008.
