MH-CET, also known as Maharashtra Common Entrance Test, is going to replace JEE Main from 2016, officials of the Maharashtra Higher and technical education department said. This exam will be conducted to facilitate the admission process for B.E./B.Tech programmes. Students will have to take this examination for getting admission in engineering programmes in the state. MH-CET was last conducted in the year 2013.
As per the announcement made by minister of higher and technical education Vinod Tawde, the state plans to conducts its own common entrance test for admission in engineering programmes.
Official information regarding application procedure and eligibility criteria of MH-CET will be available soon on the official website of MH-CET. JEE main is also known as all India engineering entrance test and it is conducted by CBSE.
As the syllabus of JEE Main is very difficult and too much money is spent in coaching provided by private institutions, the students, parents and private institutes are demanding to bring back CET.
After restoring CET, the government is planning to assign 50% weightage to class 12 marks as well as 50% to CET marks, as a substitute of the JEE main.
