Tamil Nadu CM inaugurates new medical college in Chennai.
With the help of video conferencing from the state secretariat, the Chief Minister of Tamil nadu Jayalalitha, inaugurated the new medical college, set up at a cost of Rs200 crore, in the Omandurar Government Estate.
After a gap of 55 years the 20th medical college has been established in the state capital. The city has three other medical colleges Madras Medical College, Stanley Medical College and Kilpauk Medical College.
Already the college has been allotted 100 medical seats by Medical Council of India (MCI) and it has staff strength of 410, including medical and para-medical faculty.
Over the past four years the number of MBBS seats in the state increased by 710, stated a government release.
The government had sanctioned Rs 12.2 crore towards medical services to procure state-of-the-art equipment for the college.
