NAAC directed by SC to grade deemed universities
National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) has been instructed by the Supreme Court to issue grade certificates to 41 universities which have caught the apex court’s scrutiny for failing to satisfy various criteria necessary for getting recognition.
The apex court has instructed the Council to not to insist upon the UGC’s 2010 regulation framework while deciding the grade of the universities. All educational institutions have been asked to file a self-appraisal report to the Council within 10 days. The Council will then grade the institutions within two months. The decision taken by the Council would be subject to the final outcome of the proceedings pending before the court.
The Centre will institute a new framework to grade universities after consulting with various stake-holders including University Grants commission (UGC), All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) and NAAC.
