IIT Bhubaneswar introduced dance as a B. Tech subject
IIT Bhubaneswar has become the first IIT in the country to introduce Odissi dance as a B.Tech subject, Director of IIT Bhubaneswar RV Rajkumar said on Friday.
He said that Odissi dance would be one of the ‘Breadth’ courses of maximum 12 credits during B.Tech studies and each credits carry five hours of study for a course in a week.
Students of first year can either learn Odissi, Yoga or join NSS, NCC or a sports team like badminton, volleyball and cricket. Ten girls have already chosen odissi dance and they have to clear it to earn the B.Tech degree.
In their second and third years, Odissi will be an optional subject and other choices of subjects will be financial management, international relations and entrepreneurship. There would be three credits for the “breadth course,” for the two semesters in a year
It would be purely optional subject in final semester. Students in the last year either can continue or discontinue odissi. Student learning odissi in final year would get a diploma in dance too.
