17 Indian Institutions listed in top 800 by Times World University Rankings 2015
17 Indian institutions have made it to the list of top 800 institutes in the world in the Times Higher Education World University Ranking 2015. When compared to previous editions, more number of Indian institutes have made it to this list this time.
Though 17 Indian institutes come up in the list of top 800 institutes only two of those are listed in the top 400. Indian institute of Science, Bangalore was placed in between ranks 251 and 300 whereas IIT- Bombay was placed in between ranks 351 and 400.
"It is good news for India that 17 of its institutions feature in this year's list of the world's best universities but it will have to work harder to compete with other emerging economies such as China which has 37 institutions featured in this year's rankings and Russia which has fewer institutions overall but a higher proportion in the upper echelons of the table," said Phil Baty, the editor of the Times Higher Education World University Rankings.
