IGNOU to roll-out certificate/diploma programs in RTI
Considering the social relevance of RTI act, The Indra Gandhi National Open University is planning to introduce certificate and diploma programs in RTI. The courses will also be made essential for the central government employees. The Central Information Commission (CIC) is supporting IGNOU to create these programs.
The vice chancellor of IGNOU, Nageshwar Rao, was quoted saying to a news agency, "We realized that people know that they can seek certain information through RTI but they are not aware of the technicalities such as how to go about the process, how to frame the questions, how and where to make further appeals and much more".
The certificate course likely to start from July 2016 onwards and diploma course will commence from January 2016. Two admission cycles will be conducted by the university in a year to enroll fresh admissions.
The drafting of the certificate courses is still in process while Post Graduation Diploma in Right to Act (PGDRTI) has already been started.
Rao further said, “While it will be mandatory for all the Central Government employees to pursue the course, it will be open to all including the prisoners".
