Course fee in IITs may be increased by 150 percent
The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) is planning to increase the course fee for the Bachelor of Technology (B.Tech.) programmes by 150 percent. The current fee which is INR 90,000 per year shall be increased to 2.5 lakh per annum. This increment in the course fee was proposed by the IIT Council.
To recover the periodic cost including equipment, staff salary, housekeeping, labs, water and electricity of institute, this proposal may be approved very soon.
Government provides subsidy to all the IITs. General cost of a graduation course in IITs is around INR 3.5 lakh per annum but because of the subsidy granted by the government, students only have to pay INR 90,000 per annum.
Students belonging to reserved categories (SC/ST) and students belongs to economically weaker section will only have to pay 10% of the total fee.
