Accredited by NAAC with B++ grade, The Zamorin's Guruvayoorappan College is situated on the lovely hillock of Pokkunnu, 8 km east of Kozhikode. It was established in 1877 as an English school by Manavikraman Maharaja Bahadur, the Zamorin of Kozhikode. In 1981, the college acquired its present name 'The Zamorin's Guruvayurappan College'.Affiliated to the University of Calicut, the college offers under-graduate and post-graduate courses in humanities, science and social science. The salient features include computer center, career guidance center, hostel facilities for women, well equipped laboratory and library. Canteen, co-operative store, bank, post office and student center for women are the added facilities.
Apart from studies, students are encouraged to take part in extra-curricular and co-curricular activities. The college hosts an army wing of NCC (National Cadet Corps) along with two units of NSS (National Service Scheme). As per Compulsory Social Service (CSS), an innovative program of the university, it is mandatory for all under-graduate students to participate in social activities during specified number of hours in and around the campus. The Zamorin of Calicut is the patron of the college and serves as the Educational Agency of the institution.The college offers courses humanities, science and social science. There are eleven UG and seven PG courses in the campus. There are fifteen academic departments and the Department of Physical Education with a faculty strength of 81. The administrative support is offered by the ministerial staff around 60 in member. The college library maintains a good collection of books and periodicals in varied disciplines. All members of staff and students on the rolls are members of the library. It has a collection of over 55,000 books and subscribes to more than140 periodicals. The Career guidance centre provides guidelines to students for securing employment after completing their UG/PG courses in the campus through counseling and dissemination of information. It also conducts programs on soft skills of the students to enhance their employment potentials. Accomodation : The college management runs a womens hostel to provide accommodation to the girl students. Students from distant areas make use of this facility to fulfill their academic pursuits in the campus. Financial Aid : There are endowments and scholarships for the benefit of students. These endowments and scholarships are instituted by alumni and well wishers of the institution. The college has schemes for providing financial assistance to economically backward students.
