Goa Engineering College?(GEC) is a government-owned academic organization incepted in 1967, and is situated within the settled demographics of Goa. The college lays concentration on providing certified courses within the divisions of engineering, and caters to each and every infrastructural and industrially competitive requirement so as to produce best specialists and graduates. It has NBA accreditation and AICTE approval and proves to be under affiliation with Goa University. UG (BE) courses in Mining, IT & Electronics & Communications along with PG (ME) courses in different sectors of engineering are executed here itself.
The college was established in 1967 for providing technical manpower initially in the fields of Civil, Mechanical and Electrical Engineering. Since then the college has continuously evolved to meet the changes in the field of engineering. Undergraduate Courses in Electronics and Telecommunication Engineering and Computer Engineering besides two postgraduate courses in the fields of Foundation Engineering and Industrial Engineering have also been introduced. The College of Engineering is the only Govt. engineering college offering full time and part-time courses. The college is approved by All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) and is funded by Govt. of Goa, presently affiliated to Goa University.
College of Engineering campus is located at Farmagudi, adjacent to Ponda town. The institute building, hostels, residential quarters for staff with neatly laid out roads, lawns and gardens constitute the GEC campus of about 200 acres.
The college has refined and updated the course contents from time to time to keep pace with the changes in technology and in meeting the growing needs of the industry. In this regard various schemes have been in operation from time to time, the requisite funding has been obtained from both state and central government agencies. Funding :
A limited number of scholarships and other financial assistance are available to the students of the college, for continuance of scholarships, scholarship holders are required to maintain good scholastic standing and good conduct. Placement : A separate unit deals with this important activity. Training and placement section co-ordinates and conducts campus interviews for students of final and pre-final years. The percentage of placement is almost 80-90% with marginal variation depending on the branch of specialisation. Accomodation : The institute has residential facilities for the students who are admitted to the UG and PG programmes. It has four hostels for boys with an intake capacity of 120 each on a sharing basis for first three years and independently in final year.
