After its establishment in 1960 the University started functioning with two colleges, viz., the College of Agriculture and the College of Veterinary Medicine which was renamed as the College of Veterinary Sciences.Two years later, a College of Agricultural Engineering was started which was renamed as the College of Technology in 1966 with the addition of 3 new B.Tech programmes in Civil, Mechanical and Electrical engineering. The need of a college which could impart the knowledge of basic scientific principles to the students, was also being felt strongly since the inception of the University. Hence a School of Basic Sciences and Humanities was established in 1963 which was upgraded as the College of Basic Sciences and Humanities. The College of Fishery Sciences established in 1985, at G. B. Pant University of Agriculture and Technology, Pantnagar, India is one of the premier institution, especially in the Inland Fisheries Sector, catering to professionally trained manpower, development of fish production technologies, transferring the technologies to fish culturists, entrepreneurs and the industry. Placement: The Directorate of Placement and Counselling is headed by a Director with the help of a Joint Director who are assisted by two Assistant Directors. Enough secretariat and technical assistance is available to manage the various activities of the Directorate. 

The main aim of the Directorate is to provide effective day to day guidance to the students for purposeful placement on one hand and to introduce them to prospective employers through campus interviews on the other hand. Accommodation: The University provides accommodation for 3000 students in its 22 hostels each of which is provided with all required facilities.The hostel provide food facility for students on nominal rates
