Institute Description

  • National Law School of India University, (NLSIU) Bangalore is the first Indian Law University established by a statute passed by Karnataka Legislature in 1986. It became functional in 1988.
  • It was established with a view to cater to the requirements of the legal profession, law teaching and research, and judiciary and it is expected that the students who study in this School will eventually become legal practitioners, law teachers or engage in legal research or enter the judiciary in due course
  • It is the only Law School sponsored by the Bar Council of India with a view to raising the standard of legal education in India. 
  • The National Law School has exchange programmes with the National University of Singapore, Osgoode Hall Law School, York University, Canada and Buceuius Law School, Germany.

Common Law Admission Test (CLAT)

An initiative has been taken jointly by University Grant Commission (UGC), Ministry of HRD and National Law Universities for conducting a Common Law Admission Test (CLAT) for taking admission to different National Law Universities in the country                                          

Important Instructions to the Candidates:

  • Candidates are required to fill all the columns relating to the reserve categories to which they belong in the application Form. The candidates are also required to submit the duly attested copies of the certificates proof.
  • Candidates should Indicate their preference in order for all eleven Law Universities to which they wish to join in the Application Form. This is a mandatory condition.
  • Candidates must indicate three choices of their Test Centers in order of preference in the Application Form
  • Candidates are required to mention the Domicile to which they belong to in the Application Form along with the duly attested photocopy of the domicile certificate
