Institute Description

  • Established way back in the year 1969, Christ University (School of Law) was founded and is administered by the Carmelites of Mary Immaculate (CMI)
  • The university was founded under the Bangalore University, In the first three decades of its incorporation, Christ college became the most preferred educational institution in the city of Bangalore
  • It became the first College in South India to be reaccredited with A+ by National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) in May 2005
  • The UGC identified Christ University (School of Law) as an Institution with Potential for Excellence
  • On July 22, 2008 the Ministry for Human Resources Development, Government of India, under Section 3 of the UGC Act, 1956 declared Christ College as a Deemed to be University in the name and style of Christ University
The School of Law:
  • The university School of Law offers Graduate, Postgraduate and Doctoral programmes in law as per the guidelines of the Bar Council of India and the University Grants Commission
  • The law school features a flexible curriculum and offers various options in different areas of specialization
  • It is carefully structured keeping in mind the requirements of legal profession and academia
  • The programs offered at the School of Law encompass a number of special opportunities such as internships, clinical programs, supervisory research and writing
  • Seminars, guest lectures and workshops are conducted at the college on various subjects of law at regular intervals to promote interaction between students and legal professionals
  • Apart from the compulsory courses, the law school has also introduced for the benefit of its students numerous other value-added courses and programmes


Extracurricular and Co-curricular activities

  • SLCU students have time and again made their presence felt in national and international moot court and client counseling competitions
  • The current faculty boasts experience in both, participating in National and International Moot Court Competitions and training students to compete at these events and also judging international moot court competitions
  • The institute also organized the national round of "The Commonwealth Moot Court Competition, 2009
  • Teams from 22 institutions participated
  • Not only this, it also hosted training programs, national disarmament seminar and national nuclear disarmament workshop
  • At the institute, the students are endowed with sports and games facilities so that they attain physical growth and nurture sportsman spirit among them
  • The university owns separate courts for most major games like basketball, football, volleyball and hockey
  • Intra-University and inter-college matches and sports day conducted at the institute give students ample opportunity to develop their talents and skills
  • Students of SLCU have won the overall championship of Invictus 2011, conducted by WB National University of Juridical Sciences


Associations and Fests

  • The university features various associations that cater to the diverse interests of the students.
  • In addition to the Moot Courts and Client Counseling events, the institute also has associations for literary, debate, cultural, sports, legal literacy, journal and dramatics to promote students potentials.
  • Apart from the Law fest, various departments at the University organize their own collegiate and inter-collegiate fest. 
  • School of Law is conceptualizing more inter-collegiate law fest and students are expected to contribute in this regard.
  • Some of the Events organized and conducted during the academic year 2012-2013 by SLCU are as follows:
  1. The annual National Moot Court Competition: The competition was inaugurated by His Excellency, The Governor of Karnataka, Shri. H.R. Bhardwaj, and Mr. Ashok Haranahalli, Advocate General of Karnataka.
  2. The Chief Guest of the valedictory ceremony was the Honble Minister of Law and Justice Shri. M. Veerappa Moily. The Guests of Honour included Shri. Oscar Fernandes, Member of Parliament, Rajya Sabha, Messrs. Shanti Bhushan, Subramanya Jois and Udaya Holla, Senior Advocates.
  • A National Conference titled "Indian Constitution in the 21st Century: A Conceptual and Contextual Audit"
  • The Conference was inaugurated by Justice Santosh Hegde and Justice P.P. Naolekar, former Judges, Supreme Court of India
  • The conference saw the participation of eminent jurists, academicians and legal practitioners including Prof. V.S. Mallar, Chair Professor (M.K. Nambiar Chair on Constitutional Law) at the National Law School of India University, Bangalore, Messrs. Udaya Holla and Aditya Sondhi
  1. A Conference on Goods and Service Tax, conducted in association with Lakshmikumaran and Sreedharan, Bangalore
  2. A Seminar on Intellectual Property Law and Practice. Mr. Abhayan Jawaharlal, Head - Group Legal, Biocon, delivered the keynote address
  3. A Seminar on Cause Lawyering by Dr. Upendra Baxi, Professor Emeritus, University of Warwick
  4. A Seminar on the Right to Education by Dr. Kshitij Urs, Regional Manager, Action Aid India
  5. A Panel Discussion on the Nuclear Liability Bill, in association with Greenpeace, India
  6. An Orientation Program on the Indian Constitution in association with the Department of Social Sciences, Christ University
  7. The college believes that these events will motivate students who are intending to pursue careers that are considered unconventional and challenging
