Placement Services

University host a variety of career events at the campus to assist students in the placement.

On Feb. 14, the VCU School of Business hosted its largest career fair ever. Over 60 local organizations showed up to advertise job openings and internships for business students.
The event took place on the first floor of Snead Hall where each company had their own table for students to learn about the companys available positions and talk to spokespeople for the organization. As the room began to fill up, students were waiting in line for the opportunity to introduce themselves to companies recruiters. Over 600 students talked to more than 200 employer representatives over the course of the day. Mike Eisenman, director of the career center for both the Schools of Business and Engineering at VCU, said that VCU Business students are becoming a growing commodity. In the last two and a half years, well over 550 different employers have hired our graduating students, Eisenman said. Specific jobs that the companies were hiring for included, but were far from limited to: management positions, real estate agents, salespersons, tax interns, account executives and mortgage consultants. Many companies were attending the career fair for the first time in hopes of finding eager students to recruit. Lauren Prezioso, recruiter for Hometown Realty, said that it was the companys first year there, and since Hometown Realty was a locally owned business, they expected a lot of availability from students. Other companies were return visitors because they had great success in earlier career fairs with VCU. Corri Rhodenizer, recruiter for Kroger, said that a lot of VCU alumni have ended up in management positions as a result of the management training that Kroger offers through the career fairs. I think its been very successful with our presence in the community, Rhodenizer added about the effectiveness of previous career fairs on Krogers management intake. The career fair was also a good opportunity for lesser known organizations to broadcast their name to an unknowing demographic. Parallon Business Solutions, who provides business and operational services for the healthcare industry, is an eight billion dollar company headquartered in Richmond, [yet] no one knows who they are, Eisenman said. Two major executives for Parallon, Ed Jones and Steven Gross, are both VCU alumni. Laini Marshall, representing Parallon, said the company looks forward to building long-term relationships with VCU in the future. The VCU School of Business is responsible for preparing students with the confidence and skills needed to obtain jobs outside of school by providing certain tools like mock interviews, resume expresses and various support activities. Eisenman said that although this was the departments largest career fair yet, not just any organization can come to the fair and expect to be successful. Your product has to be good. Our students are real good and they compete well, he said. Eisenman said that he spent the whole afternoon after the event talking to employers, and that none of them were displeased with the outcome.
