Institute Description

Osmania University is the third oldest University of south India and the seventh oldest university in India, established in 1918.  Almost 300,000 students are pursuing their education under the affiliated colleges and other institutions of this university.

  • Osmania University was founded by Nawab Osman Ali Khan, seventh Nizam of Hyderabad.
  • It is located in Saifabad in Hyderabad, Andhra Pradesh and was established in 1918.
  • The university focuses on contributing to the social and economic development of the country.
  • Osmania University is the first university which provides for Indian languages as the medium of instruction such as Urdu. English is a compulsory subject as well.

Activities:

Centre for Educational Development of Minorities

It was established in 1994 with the objective of improving the classroom performance of school children and improving the participation and performance of minority candidates in competitive examinations.

English Language Training Centre

It was established in 1988, a number of Workshops have been organized on various aspects of English Language Teaching with experts drawn from U.K. and U.S.A.

Physical Education

The Department of Physical Education existed since the inception of Arts College to promote indoor and outdoor games.

National Service Scheme (NSS)

The NSS Cell conducts Special Camps in 6 (six) districts i.e. Hyderabad, Ranga Reddy, Mahabubnagar, Medak, Nalgonda and Nizamabad for promoting welfare of society.

 

Library:     

  • Established in 1918 and was inaugurated by Dr. S. Radhakrishnan, the then President of India on 3rd August, 1963.
  • The Library building is situated on an area of 62,000 sq. ft.
  • The Library contains 500,000 books, 6000 manuscripts including rare palm leave manuscripts, 400 periodicals, 58,000 bound volumes of journals, 3,858 Government documents, 272 files, 6428 manuscripts, 143 microfilms and 9 CD ROMS.

Festival:

Convocation: Graduation Ceremony is celebrated annually, usually during May-July. This event gives opportunity to interact with the fellow-degree holders and The Chancellor of the University gives away the degrees.

Achievements:

1. In the recent past the Directorate convened Mega Placements for 1000 vacancies for graduate trainees on behalf of Vedanta Aluminum Ltd with the assistance of Directorate of Admissions, OU.
2. Organized Two Road Shows at University college for Women on behalf of Wipro technologies for their EARN WHILE TO LEARN    SCHEME under Wipro Academy for Software Excellence program (WASE) for the Academic Year 2009-10 batch.
3. The college on its own has been making almost 100% placements at B.Tech level excluding the students who wish to pursue their studies abroad or pursue further studies in India.
