The TMI campus is built in a rural area with neither the benefits of an urban infrastructure nor the constraints of the cityscape. This made it possible for the TMI campus to be purpose built with infrastructural facilities that could be leveraged for the learning experience. Protection of the Environment
Conservation of resources and protection of the environment is a central theme in the design of this campus. In addition to the proactive elements incorporated into the design of the engineering systems the boiler exhaust is processed through an electrostatic precipitator to minimize air pollution.
The campus is fully wired for high performance networking in all forms. High-speed data communications take place over a fully switched network based on an optical fibre backbone with gigabyte bandwidth. Campus residents can freely access the Institute's server resources as well as the Internet.
All users can also take advantage of the integrated voice mail system that ensures efficient communications for persons with a demanding schedule on the widespread campus.
Academic facilities are targeted at the knowledge development aspect of learning at TMI. These facilities include AV rooms, modern laboratories, Ship In Campus, live power plant, large Learning Resource Centre, an auditorium and faculty offices. Classrooms
A large number of classrooms are fully air-conditioned and are equipped with modern audio-visual aids. Subjects that require specialized equipment to be used during instruction are taught in suitably equipped, dedicated rooms. Each classroom can accommodate upto 40 students. Larger drawing halls are available when required. Laboratories
Laboratories are essential in supporting the classroom taught aspects of science, engineering and computer related subjects. To fulfill the needs of students and teachers, various well-equipped laboratories have been set up to demonstrate and teach the principles of material testing, mechanics, hydraulics, electric control systems, electronic equipment and electric machinery. Computer based training modules like Full Mission Ship Handling and Engine Room Simulator including Electronic Chart Display System, Radar and Marine Communication Simulators are also used extensively. Computing Facilities
The campus has three modern computer centres equipped with high performance servers and workstations. A wealth of software and several operating system platforms provide extensive opportunities and capabilities for advancing computer skills and allow the use of modern teaching methods like computer simulation and computer based instruction. TMI is keenly aware of the importance of computers in all professions and will ensure that these facilities keep evolving to keep pace with the needs of students to develop a high degree of proficiency in computers related to their discipline. A dedicated broadband connection from VSNL supported by an ISDN backup connection provides Internet connectivity to the campus. Learning Resource Centre (LRC)
The 7,000 sq. ft. LRC caters exclusively to the students and faculty of TMI. It offers a broad range of titles relevant to maritime disciplines, mechanical engineering, computers and the basic sciences. The LRC also receives a large number of popular magazines and current maritime journals. Multi-media resources are also available and are expected to grow. The LRC remains open over extended hours for the benefit of all the residents and is used extensively for research related to project assignments. Auditorium
A 280 seated fully air-conditioned auditorium with modern projection facilities and carefully designed acoustic characteristics provides a venue for seminars, large group presentations and special events including students' extra-curricular activities. Training Facilities
Practical training facilities are targeted at the skills development aspect of learning at TMI. These facilities include a large, well equipped workshop, Prabhu Vidya, the ship in campus, engineering infrastructure, mock-ups for fire fighting and other training plus other facilities designed to improve the seamanship training of TMI students.

Tolani Maritime Institute is one of the largest in the country with over 1,500 students enrolled in its campus-based and distance learning programmes. The institute has state of the art facilities including full mission ship handling and engine room simulator and own thermal power plant. TMI disburses scholarships worth approx. USD 160,000 annually to meritorious and needy students to promote excellence. Girl students are promoted by providing fee concessions and additional scholarships.
