Sahyadri Science College (SSC), Shimoga was built in 1940. It is a self-governing college and it has been re-authorize with "B++" by NAAC, subsidiary to Kuvempu Uinversity and perceived by UGC. College is one of the chief instructive organizations in the Malenaadu range or south Karnataka. It is prestigious one as well. Their central goal is to encourage innovativeness in instructing, learning and examination of fundamental and connected sciences to fabricate an information base and elevate quality activity and to make science training appealing and available. The college also provide hostel facilities for the students from distant places.
Sahyadri College is one of the premier Educational Institutes in the Malenaadu area or South Karnataka. It is prestigious one too. The college was established in the year 1940 as an Intermediate College by the erstwhile Mysore Governement during the rule of His Highness King Jayachamarajendra Wadeyar of Mysore.
The college was started in the city and later shifted to its present location outside the city on Bangalore Honnavar Highway in 1948. Today the building has a solid stone structure with an imposing view.
The College was upgraded to the First Grade College level in the year 1956 and named as Government First Grade College. Influenced by the scenic landscape couched in the Sahyadri Hills, Dr. K V Puttappa (Kuvempu) the First recipient of Jnana Peeta award winner and the then Vice Chancellor of Mysore University urged the Government to rename the College as Sahyadri College. It was in 1962. Accommodation: At present, the college has hostel facility only for the boys. The hostel is functioning for the last thirty years. The hostel is located on the college campus. Boarding and lodging facility is extended to one hundred and fifty students. The hostel is like an extended home for the inmates hailing from various parts of the country. The ambience is conducive for the overall development of the students. Placement: The college has opened a placement cell in association with the Pathways Project in the college. The cell trains the students in Communication Skills, Interview skills, Group Discussions and Logical and Mathematical Aptitude tests. The cell also makes the attempt to find placement for the eligible students in the college.
