All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) conducts an exam on a national level that is computer-based. This exam is called Common Management Aptitude Test (CMAT) which is the basis of admission to a number of Business Schools in the country. This exam will be conducted only once in a year for the session 2016-17. The CMAT Score is accepted by over 1500 AICTE approved business schools.

CMAT exam is an objective type computer-based exam that is conducted by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE).  All the aspiring candidates appearing for Post-graduate programs in management for the academic session 2016-17, can apply for CMAT- 2016 which will be conduct in January, 2016. The scores secured by the candidates appearing for CMAT exam will be the basis of admission to various B-Schools approved by AICTE which are about 1500 in number.

Earlier CMAT was conducted twice a year (i.e. September and March). AICTE has brought a change this year and from now on CMAT will only be conducted once in a year.

The candidate appearing for this examination must have a bachelor’s degree from a recognized university in any discipline and should have obtained not less than 50% marks (for SC/ST candidates the minimum marks is 45%). Students pursuing graduation and are in the final year can also apply for this examination.

The selection process is initiated by AICTE itself. Detailed merit list consisting scores of all the candidates who appeared for the exam is send to the State Governments who would use it for allotting candidates through central counseling or as per the admission procedure followed by them. The scores awarded will be used for the admission process in the AICTE approved institutes/ University Departments, if in case no central counseling takes place.

These questions are objective type questions, each carrying 4 marks for the right answer and a negative marking of 1 mark for the wrong answer. Four options are given for every question from which the candidate has to choose 1 correct option. This is a computer based test and the duration of the whole exam is 180 Minutes.

The application procedure for the CMAT exam happens online and the candidates will have to create an account if they are new users. The applicants can choose from three different modes for payment of the examination fee which are Net Banking, Credit Card/Debit Card and Cash Payment.

For the Cash payment, a challan is generated online, the payment for which can be done at any local State Bank of India branch.

The fees for the CMAT exam is INR 1400+ Bank charges for the candidates belonging to the General Category and INR 700+ Bank charges for candidates belonging to SC/ST/PD categories.

B-Schools and University Departments, approved by AICTE from all over India whose count exceeds 1500 in number are participating institutes in this examination.
