The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) conducts a national level entrance exam called the All India Pre Medical/Dental Test (AIPMT) to facilitate the admission process for the medical courses like MBBS and BDS based on the 15% quota of the All India Quota in government Medical and Dental colleges in India excluding Andhra Pradesh, Telangana and Jammu & Kashmir. The selection for about 3200 Medical seats and 300 BDS seats offered by the government medical and dental colleges in India, is done through with the conduction of this examination.

The candidates wanting to appear for this examination must have passed XII board examinations and must have also studied Physics, Chemistry, English and Biology. The candidates applying for the exam must have scored an aggregate of not less than 50%, the candidates belonging to the reserved categories should score above 40% marks. The candidates who are studying in XII are also eligible to apply for the examination. The candidates applying to appear for the examination must have attained 17 years as on 31st December 2015 and must not be more than 25 years as on 31st December 2015, the candidates belong to the reserved categories have a relaxation of 5 years. 

The syllabus prescribed by the CBSE will be the basis of the questions in the AIPMT exam. A total of 180 questions will be present in the question. The whole question paper carries 720 marks. The candidate will be awarded 4 marks for every right answer and 1 mark will be deducted for every wrong answer. The duration of the whole paper will be 3 hours. There will be four sections which are Physics, Chemistry, Botany and Zoology and each section will consist of 45 multiple choice questions. 

The submission of applications can only be done through online mode. The payment of the application fee must also be made by the candidates which can be done through Debit/Credit Card/Challan along with Service Tax as applicable.

The candidates must visit the official website to download the admit card which shall be available since 1st April 2015. The information regarding the date, time and venue and all the other exam related information will be mentioned on the admit card.  

After the declaration of the results a merit list will be published on the basis of the cut off marks. Based on the rank in the merit list, the candidates will then be called in for the counselling sessions for MBBS and BDS programs. Only the results of the candidates qualifying the exams will be declared.
