A national level entrance exam to facilitate the admission process to post graduate and post-doctoral courses in MD/MS/MHA/DM/M.Ch/House Jobs (Oral Health Science) is conducted by the Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER), Chandigarh, which is called the PGIMER Entrance Exam. The examination is conducted twice a year for MD/MS course and once in a year for the MDS course.

The candidates who want to apply for this examination must have passed the MBBS/BDS degree from a college recognized by the Medical Council of India (MCI) or Dental Council of India (DCI). The candidates applying for the MD/MS seats must have also completed one year of compulsory rotating internship as on 31st December 2014 (if appearing for the January 2015 session) and 30th June 2015 (if appearing for the July 2015 session). The candidates applying for the BDS seats must have also completed one year of compulsory rotating internship as on 30th June 2015. The candidates must have a permanent registration from Central/State Medical/Dental Registration Council.

The PGIMER entrance exam is a paper-pencil format examination. The paper pattern for the MD/MS and the BDS exam is different. The table below shows the exam pattern for both the papers.

The application form will be available to the candidates on the official website and the candidates must fill the basic details such as academic details, internship details and other personal details in the form and submit it online. The applications can only be submitted through online mode. The candidates must also make the payment for the application fee through the e-challan generated online, payable at any branch of State Bank of India.

The admit card containing the details of the candidates like their name, roll number, exam center, time and examination instructions will be available on the official website of the exam conducting authority. The issuing of admit cards will only be done for the candidates whose application will be found complete.

The declaration of results will be done on the date stated in the admission brochure. The declaration of results will only be done for the candidates qualifying the examination. The qualifying marks for each category are different, which is specified in the table below.

A merit list will created on the basis of the marks scored by the students in entrance exam. The declaration of results will be done only for the candidates who’ve qualified the exam. Based on the ranks of the candidates in the merit list, the allotment of seats will be done. Selected candidates will be called for the counseling process.
