A national level entrance exam is conducted twice a year by the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) called the AIIMS PG entrance examination for the admissions to postgraduate medical programs such as MD, MS and MDS. The selection of candidates for as many as 160 MD/MS and MDS seats are done through this examination.

The candidates who wants to apply for this examination must have passed the MBBS/BDS degree from a college recognized by the Medical Council of India (MCI) or Dental Council of India (DCI) and must have also scored an aggregate of not less than 55% marks (candidates belonging to the SC/ST categories must have scored an aggregate of not less than 50% marks). The candidates applying for the MD/MS seats must have also completed one year of compulsory rotating internship as on 30th January 2015 (if appearing for the January 2015 session) and 30th July 2015 (if appearing for the July 2015 session).

The AIIMS PG entrance exam is a computer based examination. The questions in this examination will be based on the syllabus prescribed by the examination authority. The syllabus will be based on the subjects studied during the MBBS and the BDS course. For every wrong answer, 1/3rd of the marks allocated for right answer will be deducted.

The application form will be available to the candidates on the official website and the candidates must fill the basic details such as academic details, internship details and other personal details in the form and submit it online. The applications can only be submitted through online mode. The candidates must also make the payment for the application fee that can be paid through computer generated challans of designated banks or through credit/debit cards. 

The admit card containing the details of the candidates like their name, roll number, exam center, time and examination instructions will be available on the official website of the exam conducting authority. The issuing of admit cards will only be done for the candidates whose application is found complete.

The declaration of results will be done within two weeks after the entrance exam. The declaration of results will only be done for the candidates who’ve qualified the examination. The candidates must score a minimum of 50 percentile to stand qualified in the AIIMS PG entrance examination. A merit list will created on the basis of the marks scored by the students in entrance exam. Based on the ranks of the candidates in the merit list, the allotment of seats will be done. Selected candidates will be called for the counseling process
