The Government Medical College, Haldwani, conducts a state level entrance exam called the Uttarakhand Pre Medical Test (UPMT) to facilitate the admission process to MBBS and BDS courses.

The UPMT examination is held in the state of Uttarakhand every year to fill the MBBS and BDS seats.

The candidates applying for UPMT exam must have passed higher secondary examinations from a recognized Board. The candidates must have also studied Physics, Chemistry and Biology as compulsory subjects in the higher secondary level. A minimum aggregate of not less than 50% marks in Physics, Chemistry and Biology (40% for SC/ST) must be scored by the candidates in the board exams.  The candidates appearing for this examination must have citizenship of India and must also have attained 17 years of age as on 31st December 2015.

The duration of the UPMT exam will be of 3 hours. The UPMT exam question paper will consist of total 180 questions which will be from subjects like Physics, Chemistry and Biology. The questions will be based on the syllabus prescribed in the higher secondary level examinations.

The candidates can get the application forms for the UPMT exam from the General Post Offices of their cities. The application forms will also be available at the GPO Lucknow and GPO New Delhi. The candidates must also make the payment for the application form. The candidates belonging to the General and OBC categories will have to pay INR 1700 for the application form and the candidates belonging to the SC/ST categories will have to pay INR 1200 to obtain the application form

The selection of the candidates will be fully based on their performance in the entrance examination. A merit list will be created on the basis of the results and the seats will be allotted to the candidates on the basis of their ranks in the merit list.
